Still Setting Up My Blog

I am still setting up the blog for Designer Girl Gallery. I really wanted to be able to use my Etsy banner on my blog so that there would be a consistent “look and feel” between this site and my Etsy store. Alas, I am using a free version of the WordPress theme, and while there is a way to integrate a “hero” image (my banner) into the blog page with the pro theme version, there isn’t evidently a way to do that with the free version. Rats! At least I will have a blog that I can connect to Etsy to write about my designs, the design process, and more.

Right now my website still is not showing up when I type in my URL into the browser. It evidently hasn’t “propagated” fully across the Web. When you set up a website, one thing you must do is to change the nameserver information at the domain name registrar. You obtain this information from your webhosting company. If your domain name registrar and your webhosting happen to be the same company, then often this process is seamless and your site may be up and running with a few hours — less than a day. In this case, I am dealing with two separate companies. I have entered the new nameserver information at the domain name registrar. It can take up to 2 or 3 days for this information to spread throughout the World Web Web. Propagation is a necessary process for someone to be able to type in your url and be able to access your website. Normally it hasn’t taken more than a few hours for my sites to propagate. With this one, it has been almost 24 hours. When I type in my url, I get the message that the “site can’t be reached.” So I continue to wait, and if 24 hours comes and still no site, I will contact the hosting company.
